‘Beating the Bounds’
Sunday 25 May, meet at 12.30pm at the Station pub for a 1pm start

What is Rogation Sunday?
Rogation Sunday is a special day in the Christian calendar that has roots that go back centuries. Traditionally, it was a time for communities to come together, pray for blessings on their land and crops, and ask for God’s guidance and protection. People would walk the boundaries of their parish in a procession, often called “beating the bounds,” as a way of ensuring that everyone knew what lay within the limits of the parish. Today, while we may not all be farmers, the spirit of Rogation Sunday remains the same. It’s about gratitude for the world around us, the importance of community, and taking time to reflect on our blessings. This year, St. John’s Church in Stoneleigh is celebrating Rogation Sunday in a special way — with a sponsored walk around the parish boundary, including through the beautiful Nonsuch Park. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy nature, connect with neighbours, and support a good cause
Why Are We Walking?
St. John’s Church has been at the heart of the community for 85 years, but our building, like many of its age, needs a little TLC. All funds raised from the sponsored walk will go towards vital repairs to the church, and the Parish Centre, ensuring it continues to be a welcoming space for worship, events, and community gatherings for years to come. So, grab your comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather, and don’t forget a bottle of water!
What to Expect on the Walk?
This will be a leisurely walk designed for everyone to enjoy, whether you want to join for the full 8.9 kilometres or just part of the route. In fact, we’ve broken the walk into four manageable legs, so you can participate as much or as little as you like! With music and singing to accompany us, it’s a wonderful way to celebrate the vibrant community spirit of Stoneleigh. Why not bring your four-legged friend to join in as well?
